Curriculum Intent

The intention of the Modern Foreign Languages department is to broaden students’ horizons in a way that they haven’t yet imagined! Through a broad and in depth well drawn curriculum, students will be taught the structure of a new language whilst comparing it and learning more about their own language.  It is our intent to ensure that our curriculum is challenging and inspiring for all students to push them academically and we aim to ensure that teaching and learning is rooted in the science of learning. They will become confident and articulate young adults with the courage to face the world and all it has got to offer in terms of opportunities and cultural wealth.

“One language sets you on a corridor for life. Two languages open every door along the way.” (Frank Smith)

Our vision and purpose is to ensure all students are not limited by the language they speak but are empowered with the tools that will turn them into tomorrow’s citizens of the world. The department has put thought and consideration into the order that topics (and lessons within each topic) are taught within each key stage. Knowledge is delivered and accumulated in a logical, cumulative progression.
