Year 7 students will study A range of performance and creative projects such as; Body Percussion, Beat Boxing, Vocal Skills, African Music, Gamelan and Ukulele Skills. All homework will be focussed on music theory.
Year 8 students will study A range of performance and creative projects such as; Film Music, Popular Ensemble Skills, Samba and Indie Music. All homework will be focussed on music theory.
Year 9 students will spend 5 lessons per fortnight studying the following topics: A range of performance and creative projects and specialise in one instrument of their choice. Projects include; Electronic Dance Music, Reggae Music, Rock Music and Blues Improvisation.
Year 10 students will spend 5 lessons per fortnight studying the following topics: Solo performance and ensemble performance.
Composition skills in a range of styles..
Four set works including; ‘Brandenburg Concerto No. 5’ – JS Bach, ‘Killer Queen’ – Queen, ‘Defying Gravity’ – Stephen Schwartz (Wicked), ‘Release’ – Afro Celt Sound System
Year 11 students will spend 5 lessons per fortnight studying the following topics: Solo performance and ensemble performance.
Composition skills in a range of styles.
Four set works including; ‘Piano Sonata No. 8’ ‘Pathetique’ – Beethoven, ‘Music for a While’ Henry Purcell, ‘Main Title’ from Stars Wars – John Williams, ‘Samba Em Preludio’ – Esperanza Spalding.
You will be assessed by Two performances, two compositions and a listening/appraising exam (90 mins duration at the end of year 11)
Extra-curricular opportunities Every student will have a one to one instrumental lesson and be expected to participate in one of the extra-curricular ensembles. This is compulsory.
Homework All homework will be music theory based and set work analysis
